Marquee Project: The Alhambra

The Marquee Project is a personal, documentary photo project capturing three-dimensional signs in and around San Francisco.

The Alhambra is the theater that UPSET me: I went to photograph it at night for a neon project, and realized… it no longer lights up!

This theater on Polk Street has fanciful details. Minarets! Stars! Pastel colors!

The colors have faded gracefully, though the peeling paint makes me sad.

These photos were taken with Lomo Color 400, and if I reshoot them, I’ll switch to Portra. There is better contrast without adjustment in Portra, especially for shadows.
